It’d cold, damp, as you can see from out my aunt’s apartment a few days ago, but delicious here. Taiwan is not where you want to go in January if you’re looking for a break from dreary north American winters, my friends, so be ye not stupid when packing!
I hope you had a great New Year’s. Mine was spent napping (hello, jetlag!) and watching the Taipei 101 fireworks from the apartment of a family friend’s cousin (say that 3 times fast!), celebrating the beginning of the Republic of China’s Centennial with someone only 6 years younger than Taiwan! The fireworks weren’t spectacular, as the smoke soon obscured the building, but the building was lit up in commemoration of the national holiday and that was pretty cool. You can see the lights at around 1:54 in the following video, and the smog:
Since this is a travel blog, tell me about a trip you have planned for 2011 and I’ll tell you about mine. :)

Yay, you’re posting again! Taiwan sounds amazing, and those small fireworks around 2:00 were hands down my favorite.
My travel plans for 2011 include a trip to Yale in a week to visit the archives and hopefully a trip to Europe this summer (Holland, Ireland, Germany and maybe Sweden). I’m still looking for someone to go with me on the Europe trip, but if nobody turns up I’m going no matter what!
I would also really like to go back to Boston, and I think I’ve persuaded some friends to go along. :D maybe for spring break!
Weren’t they beautiful? I love fireworks.
Your travel plans all sound beautiful, lots of classic architecture. Why yes, I’ve picked up a little something-something from all your art history folks. Yale, Boston, and Europe(!!) sound awesome. Maybe I’ll join you for part of the European tour. ;) But yes, yes, yes, to traveling alone–although I would try and meet up with people every couple of days so everyone isn’t a stranger. There’s something so nice about knowing the person you’re talking to, even if strangers have the most interesting stories (they’re all new!).
