Did my first 25 mile bike ride on Sunday, took about 2.5 hours with a snack break (which included the first pumpkin pie of the season!), as part of the Pumpkin Patch Pedal, a leisurely 25, 50, 62, or 100 mile ride. And it was a great experience. This was the absolute longest I’ve ever ridden, and given my ridiculously slow riding speed of approximately 11mph, it was not a bad ride at all. In fact, even on my ridiculously heavy comfort bike, I probably could’ve done another 25 miles of the relatively flat meandering pseudo-country roads.
Biking has got to be one of my favorite ways to travel, and my next goal is to go a little faster, because it currently isn’t a terribly efficient one! Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like Edinburgh has any nice bike tour companies, like Berlin, Munich, or other European cities that I’ve visited or had friends that visited. But I did find a city map online, and a bike rental place, so perhaps I’ll be whizzing (using that term very, very loosely!) about there too–in 50*F weather.
Any other bikers in the audience? Tips on upping your speed (short of buying a road bike, don’t think I haven’t thought about it)?
