About

Hi, I’m Yolanda, also known as yoli (pronounced yo-lee), and, before you ask, yes, 100% Chinese. I like to subvert racial stereotypes and defy expectations. Well, sometimes. My name does most of the work for me.

I was part of the last class of Douglass College (now a residential college at Rutgers University) in May 2010 and started full-time employment about a month later—in Arkansas. As someone who lived in New Jersey, oh their entire life, to say I’m feeling out of my element is an understatement. But I love to travel and see new things, meet new people, and, now I’m finally doing it. Let’s see how it compares to the fantasy!

I left Arkansas a bit earlier than expected and am back in New Jersey, which, interestingly enough, has its own challenges! The home field advantage isn’t always as good as you think.
