It’d cold, damp, as you can see from out my aunt’s apartment a few days ago, but delicious here. Taiwan is not where you want to go in January if you’re looking for a break from dreary north American winters, my friends, so be ye not stupid when packing!

I hope you had a great New Year’s. Mine was spent napping (hello, jetlag!) and watching the Taipei 101 fireworks from the apartment of a family friend’s cousin (say that 3 times fast!), celebrating the beginning of the Republic of China’s Centennial with someone only 6 years younger than Taiwan! The fireworks weren’t spectacular, as the smoke soon obscured the building, but the building was lit up in commemoration of the national holiday and that was pretty cool. You can see the lights at around 1:54 in the following video, and the smog:
